Higher Education in America
There is evidence that even incomplete university study gives a person better career prospects than none at all. So, it is accepted that the benefits of a university career are useful.
All this effort in America’s higher education is very expensive. Some of the costs come from fees and benefactions, particularly towards research, but most have to be paid from public funds. Parents favor big expenditures on higher education; a wider public opinion favors them for idealistic and cultural reasons, and because of the supposed value of education as an investment by society.
The first universities were developed by private charitable organizations. The private universities are still very important, and most of the best-known institutions, like Harvard, Yale and Princeton, are private.
Most of the principal state universities have between 10, 000 and 30, 000 students, and some have increased rapidly in the past few years. Private universities and colleges are generally smaller, and although they are more numerous than public institutions they have a smaller total number of students than those in public institutions. The private colleges vary very much in standards and reputation, from the world-famous and select to the cranky and the obscure①. The best known of all is Harvard.
There are also many junior colleges to which students may be admitted at the end of their high school career, providing only the first two years of university work.
For the most part Americans think that there’s some advantage in attending one of the better-known private institutions, in spite of the higher cost, rather than a state university. However, testate universities are becoming increasingly important, and some of them, particularly in the Midwest have a reputation practically equal to that of the private ones. Almost every state by now has several university institutions directly under the authority of the state government.

Disadvantages of studying abroad may affect one's life culturally and economically. We Chinese will experience cultural shocks if we study abroad and live in another country. Some peers may not be able to adapt to a new environment of their studying and living, which may be very different from that of theirs. Life is beautiful, and it is hard. If one does not feel comfortable with the new culture of another country, he will not be happy about studying in that country.
In addition, studying abroad can cost students a great deal of living expenses. Some Chinese students are so academically successful that they receive scholarships in their studies. However, most peers who study abroad do not receive scholarships. Furthermore, they have to deal with many unexpected hardships by living away from their parents and homeland. For example, medical insurance, daily foods, clothes, rents and transportation can generate a large amount of living expenses. Often time, they need to heavily depend on their parents' overseas monthly payments.

In New York and New York, there are two tunnels: the Lincoln tunnel and the Holland tunnel. The Lincoln tunnel is a tunnel in New York that spans the Hudson River to link the state of New Jersey. The buildings in the lower city, though small, are also interesting. The buildings are almost the same. They are very elegant.
There are three scenic spots: Times Square and Central Park, Fifth Avenue. Now if you go to Times Square, you will have two kind of feeling, a feeling is in progress is two times, feeling Chinese stood up, because there are Chinese ads below, many shopping malls and speak Chinese salesman.
Central Park is big and beautiful. Fifth Avenue thing is all shops have a superb collection of beautiful things.

For several years ,this group has tried hard to get the city council to make life easier for bike riders. For example,they want the city council streets.The council has not yet decided what to do . It wants to keep everyone happy.But,so far the only cycle paths that have been built are in parks. To this day the safest place to ride a bike may still be in the parks.

cheating in any form is strictly prohibited in american schools。 and in fact， high school students usually don‘t cheat。 a student caught in plagiarism， forgery， or copying another student faces severe discipline， even expulsion。
school activities each school holds certain yearly activities for the entire school body， such as homecoming， prom night， holiday celebrations， etc。
homecoming is celebrated each fall， usually on a weekend， and events leading up to it may last all week。 while homecoming is celebrated differently at each school， it usually includes a parade and the crowning of the homecoming king and queen， and ends with a football game and school dance。
the prom is a formal dance for students in grades 11 and 12， and is generally anticipated as the most important social event of the school year。 it can also be a time of anxiety， as boys have to work up the courage to ask a date to the prom， and girls hope the right boy invites them。 these couples dress in formal clothes — girls in long gowns， boys in suits。 some students even arrange a limousine and driver for their group of friends to arrive in style！ at the prom， students dance， have snacks and drinks， and chat。 prom usually ends with a prom king and queen being announced and crowned on stage before an envious audience。
besides hosting events for holidays such as the fourth of july and halloween， individual high schools often have their own special events。 one day might be “inside out/backwards day，” where students and teachers should wear their clothes reversed all day， perhaps walk and speak backwards， and even go to classes in opposite order。 and some schools hold contests where， if certain academic goals are met， the principal will kiss a pig， shave his mustache， or dress as a woman for the day。
sports most high schools have at least one sports team that competes in local events， and all students are encouraged to be involved in athletics。 schools often offer football， baseball and softball， basketball， volleyball， tennis， and soccer。 some may even have sports like golf， swimming， gymnastics and cross-country skiing。
jobs many high school students have part-time jobs by the age of 15 or 16， some even earlier。 their first jobs are often babysitting or cutting lawns， but later they will likely get a job at a fast-food restaurant， video store， or clothing shop。
driving sixteen years old is legal driving age in most states， and students usually want to own a car as soon as they can。 some parents allow their children to drive a family vehicle， and may even buy a car as a graduation present。 others prefer that their sons and daughters earn enough to purchase a used vehicle。 regardless， many teenagers feel it‘s a necessity to own a car， and will do whatever it takes to be able to drive。
