一.end用作動詞

　　1.end用作動詞的基本意思是“結束”,通常指某一發(fā)展過程的最終結束。

　　2.end既可用作及物動詞,也可用作不及物動詞。

　�。�1）在用作不及物動詞時,常常與介詞或副詞構成短語;

　　How does the story end?故事結局如何?

　　Everything ended happily.結果是皆大歡喜。

　�。�2）用作及物動詞時,通常接名詞或代詞作賓語�？捎糜诒粍咏Y構。

　　Something must be done to end the strike.

　　必須采取某種措施來結束這次罷工。

　　Let's end our quarrel.

　　我們不要再吵了。

　　3.end后常可接副詞以加強語氣。end up后可接“as+名詞”、形容詞、現(xiàn)在分詞、過去分詞和介詞短語。

　　二.end用作名詞

　　1.end的基本意思是“最后部分”“末尾”,引申可表示“端”“盡頭”“梢”“終止”“死去”等。

　　2.end還可作“目的”解,是可數(shù)名詞,說“達到目的”時�？膳caccomplish, achieve, attain,

　　3.compass, gain, obtain, reach, secure, win等動詞連用。end作“結局”“結果”解時可加不定冠詞。

　　4.at the end 在…的末尾

　　Owing to a long delay on the journey, he did not arrive until the meeting was at the end.

　　由于旅途耽擱時間很長,直到會議結束他才趕到。

　　He went on spending lavishly until his money was at the end.

　　他繼續(xù)揮霍無度,直到把錢用光為止。
